MAXIMUM FORCE
“The evolution, The Art, and the Science of Striking”
The purpose of this research is to develop the maximum amount of force that is delivered by striking with the minimum amount of output energy. Over all, conserving movement, to effect the maximum result in a Martial art strike to an opponent.
I have coined a phrase that I will refer to from time to time. as Impact Structure. That phrase represents the condition of any body when a strike occurs. This would include the offensive and defensive body, the condition of the point of impact, and how the entire body (both offensive and defensive) plays a role in the overall effectiveness of the strike.
There are so many factors that come to play in the preparation and ultimate delivery of the strike. I will list a few to begin with and add to those as it becomes a little clearer. At the outset we will assume that the delivery of a strike will be unobstructed and will travel in the most effective manner to the target.
We would also assume that these two warriors that face each other would be equally matched in size, weight and experience. The weapon that we will use in this instance will be a punch, using the fore fist in a way that will eliminate the likelihood of an injury. For the sake of this illustration we will target the chest of our target body. We will, most likely, start the attack from a distance that is relatively safe from detection,
We will need to cover the distance quickly and with the least amount of wasted movement. The stance that we have selected will allow us to push off quickly. The number of steps that we take and how that we take them are crucial. Any movement that occurs here prior to the strike itself negates the attempt.
The exception might be a feint to cover the real move. Control of the breathing is paramount. If we hold our breath we put the brakes on the technique and burn energy. If the legs are straight prior to the move, we will need to bend to spring forward. That’s an extra move and an extra count.
If we cock the technique, even slightly, it wastes another move and another count. The weapon (in this case the fist) should travel in the straightest possible line to the target.
Most fighters add counts to their techniques unknowingly and wonder why they can’t reach the target. Holding the breath, cocking the hand, leaning prior to the strike is done over and over by some of the best fighters in the pro ranks today and it goes uncorrected!! Step & strike. (The adding of a step prior to a strike, rather than have them happen simultaneously!)
I have hours of cage fights that are filled with wasted movements and giveaways. One of my biggest complaints is fighters that throw away their punches!! And almost every cage fighter today does it!! I am surprised that these things have not been corrected, AND THERE’S MORE, MANY MORE!!!!
We add another count if we step prior to a strike, rather than to strike on it. We can increase the weight of the body by having it in movement when the strike occurs. (Simple Physics) I also use an analogy of pushing a car to get it started.
If I’m standing straight I’m not going to push effectively, if at all. If I’m leaning too far forward and the car starts, I fall on my face. I like to say the position that I can successfully push from, I can more successfully punch from!
I like to point out that Physics gives us so much to add to our repertoire. Such as MASS times VELOCITY equals increased FORCE.
The need for movement in striking (in the direction of the strike) becomes an added bonus! AND for every amount of force going in one direction there is an equal and opposite force coming back! (The push factor!)
What occurs at the precise moment of impact I will refer to as, Impact structure! There are so many elements that play a role in developing the force in that strike! Such as movement, resistance and condition of the weapon, to name a few. There are so many other factors that come in to play that determine if the technique is going to break through the opponents guard or not. This work is an effort to make any movement, prior to the strike itself, carefully practiced and worked to perfection.
So many factors come in to play that I have found the only way to communicate these skills is with video. That is the reason for the production of the DVD video,
MAXIMUM FORCE.
I BELIEVE THAT THIS VIDEO WILL OPEN A NEW PHASE
IN THE PERFECTION OF FIGHTING SKILLS!!
